We conducted Area Recon with NBC. About twenty minutes into the mission my headquarters element was hit with small arms and Chemical agents. The platoon leaders gunner was hit with shrapnel in his shoulder and lower back. We called for Med evac while pulling security using my wing man and four dismounts. We secured the area and the rest of the platoon arrived with the casualty. Keep in mind that we were in full Mopp level four, which means we all had on full chemical protection with a pro mask on. Granted without all of that on it was fairly good weather but getting into that stuff raised the temperature up to about 90 degrees. The whole mission lasted four hours. Besides operations in Iraq it was some of the most intense training I’ve been through. We got pictures and video of most of our part of the mission. I hope that it gives you an idea of what we as scouts do.
